Colonel Sanders : A Founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken





Colonel Harland Sanders was born on September 9, 1890, in Henryville, Indiana. At the age of 40, Sanders was running a popular service station that also served food, in fact, that the governor of Kentucky designated him a Kentucky colonel. Eventually, Sanders focused on franchising his fried chicken business around the country, collecting payment for each chicken sold. The company went on to become the world's largest fast-food chicken chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken.
He was an American businessman, best known for founding fast food chicken restaurant chain Kentucky Fried Chicken ( now known as KFC) and later acting as the company's brand ambassador and symbol. His name and image are still symbols of the company.He began selling fried chicken from his roadside restaurant in North Corbin, Kentucky during that he was developed his "secret recipe" and patented it.When his origina; restaurant closed, he devoted himself full-time to franchising his fried chicken troughout the country

Early Childhood
It must be said that Sanders's childhood was though. He was the oldest of three children born to Wilbur David and Margaret Ann Sanders. His father worked part time doing some errands of farmers in Henryville and her mother didn't work.

The problems began when his father was suddenlt died in 1895 one summer afternoon, died because a fever. His life changer a lot, his mother has to work in a tomato canning factory to feed the family somehow. And Sanders was required tp be a babysitter of younger brother and sister at home.

When his mother remmaried, he escaped from home because his stepfather beat him. He was falsified his birth date and voluuntered for the U.S. Army at the age of 15 years. Sanders held a number of jobs in his early life, such as steam engine stroker, insurance salesman and filling station operator. In 1906, with his mother's permission, he left Greenwood for New Albany, where his uncle lived. He was able to secure Harland a job as a conductor.

Kentucky Fried Chicken is Born
After closing the restaurant in 1952, Sanderss devoted himself to franchising his chicken business. He traveled acrossed the country, cooking batches of chicken from restaurant to restaurant, striking deals that paid him a nickel for every chicken restaurant sold. His first franchise sale went to Pete Harman of Salt Lake City. In 1964, with more than 600 franchised outlets, he sold his interest in the company for $2 million to group of investors.

Kentucky Fried Chicken went public in 1966 and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1969. More than 3,500 franchised and company-owned restaurants were in worldwide operation when Heublein Inc. acquired KFC Corporation in 1971 for $285 million. KFC became a subdiar of R.J. Reynolds Industries,Inc. (now RJR Nabisco, Inc.). KFC was acquired in October 1986 from RJR Nabisco, Inc. by PepsiCo, Inc., for approximately $849 million.
